Crave 443 is a new burger joint in town, opened only in October last year. It is located on Pulteney Street close to South terrace. The place has a street style feel with simple décor and wooden benches. Although it is in the CBD, this location is a little quite at night time especially the day that we went is a hot humid rainy week day. We were the only customers in store and we only saw one other person coming through for a take away pizza.
From the menu we could see that they do three main types of food: burgers, pizza and dessert. Winny and I decided to order a burger and pizza to share. Whilst we waited the guys gave us some complimentary fries which would usually cost four dollars to order. The fries was freshly made favoured well with parsley, oregano and garlic salt. They don’t use chicken salt or anything like that. The fries were thinly chopped and very crispy. We were glad that we get to try them.
The other food came out quite promptly as expected. The burger we ordered is called “Swiss this” it has lean beef, Swiss cheese, bacon, aioli and spinach. The burger is surprisingly well made with large sour-dough bun that holds the ingredients well. It is great seeing a bun that is actually healthy. The patty had freshly grounded lean beef which was chewy and flavoured well with the slightly sweet tasting aioli. The melting Swiss cheese tops the favour with its creamy taste. The burger is neither oily nor wet and dripping with sauce. Usually Winny isn’t a fan of burgers and she was quite pleased with this one.
The pizza comes in two sizes. We got the smaller size which costs fourteen dollars and the larger size costs nineteen dollars. The Pizza we ordered contains chicken, mushroom, avocado, onion and sun dried tomatoes. The pizza is quite gourmet with fresh ingredients. The pizza itself doesn’t have any overpowering taste besides the salty taste of the sun dried tomatoes. The base is thin and crispy and the avocado is crushed and thinly lined on the pizza. The pizza isn’t overly oily and quite tasty.
